in the grid

Most of these photographs have been taken in New York City. Living there I became deeply absorbed by its urban reticulate which was supposed to facilitate urban development. It helps getting around, if you are new in town, but the grid has a negative connotation as well, especially when you are trapped in it like a fish in a net. So there is this expression "being off the grid", which means to be untraceable. Sometimes becoming part of the grid is the best way to get off the grid. The wall objects titled "image control" further explore this becoming-visible through a grid as well as the act of disappearing through the illusion it enables.
